How To Be Away From Xanax?

I have a friend that is hooked on xanex. he goes through this for a couple of weeks than stops for a couple of weeks and starts again. what can i do to help him stay off of them. he is a totally different person when he is on them and all he thinks about is them. he buys them off people.
