Hi, I am concerned about unprotected sexual encounter I had on 5/15. The partner and I were in the beginning stages of a relationship, we had unprotected sex 3 times total. He never ejaculated inside of me (I know that makes no diff, just giving details)... we decided not to pursue things shortly after the last sexual encounter. Ive been worried ever since. I had a blood test at my doctors last Wednesday 6/11. And I also did a rapid BLOOD, not oral, test on Mon 6/16. The rapid was negative and I have not received the results from the first test yet. Where do I stand in regards to my status? Thank you for your help
Pathologist and Microbiologist, Dr. Jyothi B L's Response
Hi, Thanks for asking. Based on your queries, my opinion is as follows: 1. Rapid blood test will take more than 3 months in case of HIV to be positive. 2. Other diseases do have a window period before which they will be negative. 3. Can you be specific, as sexually transmitted diseases are a long list.
You can go for antigen testing specifically or PCR for suspected infection for confirmation at present.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
