How To Care For An Infected Ear Of A Child After Piercing?

My dauughter is 5 months old
i had her ears pierced about 3 weeks ago
one has suddenly infected i think she pulled it
its a bit red and a bit swollen
and some bloody puss was coming out. its only one ear and i have cleaned it what should i do now ?

Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...

As per your complain it seems that there is abscess formation at the piercing site of ear leading to inflammation and pus formation..
The first thing that I would like to tell you is that if she is wearing the earring other than that of gold or silver there can also be reaction with the metal..
First of all gently remove the earring and clean the pus and blood that gets discharged..
You can then clear the area with betadine solution and apply Triple Antibiotic Ointment over it..
Do it daily twice a day..
It will gradually resolve in 3 to 4 days..
In case if it does not resolve or the pus discharge and pain increases consult a Paediatrician who can do a clinical evaluation and prescribe her with antibiotic syrup for faster clearing of infection..

If possible make her wear small gold earrings once the infection resolves as gold is inert material and does not cause reaction..
