How To Combat Flaring Up Of Asthma Attack During Winters?

Every fall through the spring, especially when the weather gets really cold, my asthma flares up really bad. I'm on a medication treatment plan year round - but I usually get bronchitis two to three times during this period. Is there anything I can do to prevent the flare ups. I live in Ohio. I've been advised to move south.

Thank you

Hello and welcome to HCM .

I shall try to give general self help tips to the best of my knowledge and experience ,as you are already on medication for asthma .
Asthma is an allergic condition which can be affected by stress, diet , exercise , lifestyle and atmospheric conditions .

While there is not much you can do to change the atmospheric conditions ,still wearing masks and wearing appropriate clothing to keep you warm would help .
There are certain blood tests (comprehensive allergy tests ) which can also help in finding out the specific allergens to which you are highly sensitive and thus help in managing the allergy better

Your diet can also play a significant role in aggravating asthma . Occasionally, people with asthma may have food-based allergic triggers and will need to avoid foods such as cows' milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, yeast products, nuts, and some food colorings and preservatives. So test and try each individual item for a week and see if it makes a perceptible change .Including more ginger , garlic and green tea has been shown to help .

Regular exercise like brisk walks or indoor exercises(when weather is not compatible ) which improve your heart rate and respiratory rate will alos contribute to better control of asthma episodes.Meditation and deep breathing
exercises alos help in reducng stress induced asthma episodes .

Avoid smoking ,passive and active both .

I am a homoeopathic practitioner and I have seen good results with homoeopathic treatment in improving pulmonary function in acute asthma .So if you have a Homoeopath around your place ,you can give homoeopathy a try besides the above tips .
