How To Confirm A Fracture In The Lower Back?

hi there my mother has just slipped on th stairs on her lower back and it's hurting her so much ! i just did her a bottle of hot water , which is making her feeling good right now ,should she see a doctor and do an X-ray ? what are the possibilities that it could be broken ?
