How To Control Muscle Stiffness While On Abilify?

Hi my name is James, I m currently taking abilify 20mg daily, and it is causing me muscle stiffness. My psychiatrist refuses to lower the dose any further. I cant stop taking it as I m on an ITO and he s conducting random blood tests to ensure I m taking the correct dose. What can I do about this?

Hi.

Based on the history you seem to have developed abilify induced extrapyramidal symptoms. I would recommend anti-cholinergic drugs like benztropine or diphenhydramine or muscle relaxant like baclofen for the control of muscle stiffness. Your doctor can also consider clozapine which is less likely to cause extrapyramidal and hence can be a better replacement for abilify.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
