How To Control Pain In My Hip Joint?

I'm not exactly sure what is wrong with my hip joint. What feels like the ligament on the front of my hip bone hurts every time I try to sit up from laying on my back or roll over. It also hurts to sit with my legs out in front of me. It doesn't bother me when standing though. What did I do and how do I make it stop hurting?
