Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hi,

I can understand your concern with your problem. Not able to relax before a procedure is quite a common thing, but you can overcome it with effort.

Learning relaxation exercises like progressive muscular relaxation and deep breathing will help you relax. Alternatively, use of benzodiazepines like alprazolam or clonazepam just before the procedure can help you relax and be able to undergo the procedure. You can discuss these options with your dentist.

In case, you have anxiety and avoidance in other situations too, you should undergo a complete evaluation for anxiety disorder and consult a psychiatrist for the same.

I do hope that I was able to help you out with your query.

Best wishes,

Dr. Sunil Gupta
