How To Control The Sugar Level After Stopping Flucloxacillin 1000mg?

Thank you, I have the bizarre situation where i have had an infection in a wound on my hand and been taking Flucluxicilan.( I think the Dr suspected cellulitis) 1000mg 3 times a day. My blood sugars dropped to normal over the entire period I was taking the drug. Now I am of the antibiotic I am back to square one battling to keep my sugar under control. Weird treatment for diabetes, has my pancreas merely got a bug. Startling observation for me anyway, what do you think.

Hi,

Flucloxacillin is generally not a drug that would affect the sugar levels. What happens sometimes if patients have an infection the needs for sugar increase and probably that is why it seemed the sugar levels got better during treatment.

You will need to follow up the sugar levels, the flucloxacillin treatment will be for 1-2 weeks, only if sugar falls quick you will need to take extra sugar with diet (if you have blood sugar under 50 mg/dl).

After cellulitis improvement and regular checks of the sugar levels registered the doctor might be able to decide on the further dose of medications you take for diabetes.

Make sure you follow the instructions to have a balanced diet with the proper combination of carbs, protein and fat in diet for a patient with diabetes as the doctor should have already recommended you.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
