Hi there,

Thanks for writing to us,

One of the hallmarks of Schizophrenia is a poor insight into their illness. They are unaware that they are ill, hence they do not see a reason to take medication. It may become necessary to supervise their medications on a daily basis, no matter how old they are. If it gets increasingly difficult, then you may ask your doctor to prescribe a long acting Depot preparation where he will need to take an injection every 15-30 days with less medicines.

Hope this helps,
Dr A Rao
