How To Cure Burnt Throat Which Hurts While Swallowing?

I burnt my throat on a hot chip last night, it really hurt when I did it and then it went away for a few hours. However it then became very sore, and now today it has hurt to swallow and I need to have constant lonzengers to help. How long will the pain last, and will it get any worse?

Hello and Welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

it depends on the degree of burns, however if it was a hot chip the burns would be probably Grade 1 and can cause inflammation of the lining of throat and food pipe.

It can cause pain during swallowing and burning sensation..
It can last for 3-4 days and then get better gradually.

For now you should eat more of semi solid foods that too cooled at room temperature.
Also take plenty of cool and bland fluids.
You can also take Sucralfate as it can coat the injured mucosa of food pipe .
You can take anti inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen.

In case if the pain does not improve and in case if there is worsening of the symptoms then you should consult an Emergency room and get evaluated.
