How To Cure Foot Pain While Suffering From Diabetes?

What can be done about painful feet due to nerve damage for a diabetic person? Is there a medication available? My husband has had lazer therapy on his feet but it does not seem to be helping. His DR said to stabilize and control his blood sugar. He has done this and exercises too but he still is constant pain.
