How To Cure Neck And Shoulder Pain?

Hello, I have been experiencing neck pain for a couple of weeks now. When I move my head in a circular motion, I can hear a crackling sound. The pain is also at the base of my neck and travels down to the inside of each shoulder blade. I am wondering if I should be concerned and if there is any exercises that I can do. Thank you. Susan
