How To Cure Persistent Cough For 3 Weeks With Loss Of Voice When Codeine Is Not Working?
Hi My almost 65-year old husband who is normally healthy has had a persistent hacking cough for over 3 weeks. He is extremely fastigued, suffering chest pain, pain in ribs on lefts side and almost total loss of voice. He has been prescribed a codeine medicie which has no effect. Any ideas please?

I will require more history?
1. History of smoking ?
2. History of any other chronic illness (cardiac) / DM .
3. past history of tuberculosis .
4. he is active or he is on bed most of the time.
codeine has anti allergic , anti tussive . for dry cough
for productive cough ambroxol will be beneficial.
he may also be started on broad spectrum antibiotics .
