How To Cure Shoulder Pain Along With Numbness On The Arm?

i have a dull ache and pain in my shoulder leading down my bicep into my elbow.. it feels like a dead arm sensation and seems to get worse when im at the gym, so perhaps is something to do with that? i have been applying a heated wheat bag to my arm during the evening.. is there anything else i should besides rest and no gym..?
