How To Deal With Attention Seeking Behaviour In A Person?

Hi. One of my good friends is always seeking attention. It seems like every day she has a probelm and wants everyone and anyone to listen. Or, she does something and wants to tell everyone seeming to want encouragement. She has a rough past relating to her childhood with her mom but seems to like talking about it way too much. She also has a past of self harm. How do I help this behavior and not continue to feed her what she craves?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

That must be a reflection of her traumatic past. She needs psychological counseling and psychotherapy. Drugs, required if any, will be dispensed by a psychiatrist. Time being, support her and encourage her.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr AJEET SINGH, General & Family Physician
