How To Deal With Chronic Depression And Anxiety?

I have been through so much emotional and mental pain. Starting from child hood. I have never felt loved or good enough. I have chronic anxiety. some times so severe it makes me cry for no explainable reason. I have so many thoughts goals stresses plans etc running through my mind that I cant peace, I have been on and am on depression medication and high doses from what I understand as well as add medications. I am never satisfied even though I am surrounded by people I love. I worry that I am not what they deserve, I often feel invisible and add no value. I know that the emotional part stems from never feeling loved by my mom as a child and even into adult hood to an emotional abusive partner who is also an addict. what do I do.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Anxiety and depression are increasing day by day and causative factors for these are countless which differ from person to person. I am glad that you are seeking medical help for this and giving mental health importance.

I would suggest you visit a psychiatrist. He will be able to analyze your situation and diagnose it well so that he can prescribe appropriate medicines if require to bring down your anxiety and stress. He might refer you to a psychotherapist as talking is another effective way of treatment and counselling sessions with a psychotherapist are found useful. There are other therapies which they use as per every individual and these seem to be helpful for patients.

Apart from this, I would suggest you talk to your parents and friends about how you feel and status of your mental health as they are the biggest support and they can help you feel much better. Meditating and regular exercising are things that help to elevate mood and conquer depression. So have faith and positive attitude.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Manisha Auradkar, General & Family Physician
