How To Deal With The Side Effects Of Depo Provera Shot?

My girlfriend got the shot (Depo Provera) over three months ago. She has been experiencing very severe side effects, such as depression (which she had never experienced previously) and mood swings. She has also been bleeding heavily for about a month. We are wondering if the side effects will wear off soon, or if there is anything she can do to counteract what is happening.
