Hi,
Thanks for choosing HCM.
There are different ways to predict and detect ovulation.
Monthly menstrual calender: if your cycles is 29 days, fertile days are form day 11 to 19. If cycle is 31 days , fertile days are form day 13 to 21. Ovulation can occur at any time between these days. It occurs mostly on day 14-16 of a 28 days cycle.
The cervical mucus test; keep checking you cervical mucus daily. The mucus becomes thin and watery during the ovulatory period and after ovulation it becomes thick and viscid.
Basal body temperature test; measure the body temperature daily before getting up from the bed first thing in the morning using a BBT thermometer. The temperature ranges from 97.2-97.7 degree fahrenheit before and during ovulation and rises by 0.5 to 1 degree after ovulation until the next period.
Both these methods are crude and affected by conditions like weather and presence of infection etc.
Ovulation predicting kits are available that help to detect LH surge at home and predict ovulation.
Other way is doing serial
ultrasound from day 10 onwards till the follicle that is formed ruptures [Called follicular study].
Hope this was helpful.
Thanks for using HCM.
