How To Differentiate The Arthritic And Ankylosing Spondylitis Pain?

We just migrated back from the US to INDIA and are in Gurgaon currently. My wife was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis when she gave birth to our first baby in November 2008. Since then she has been suffering from pains and frequent flare ups. None of the medicines seem to be working. On top of it after we moved back to INDIA in January of 2010, the specialist in Hyderabad said that she was suffering from Ankylosing Spondylitis and not RA. This is all too confusing and the meantime she is suffering. We are really at a loss to understand what is the exact problem. Could you please help us with you guidance.
