How To Get Periods After Intercourse?

Hello! Last monday I had a sexual intercourse. At first it was with a condom, then the second time we didn t have one so we did it without it. The guy with whom I had this sexual intercourse did not come inside of me. I am supposed to get my period in these days, but I m scared I won t have them because of an unwanted pregnancy. I don t really know what to do. I d like to try to get my periods sooner just to be in a peace of mind. I d like some advice on what to do. Thank you.

Hi,
Thanks for writing to HCM.
I have read your description and understand your concern.
Having unprotected intercourse would always carry a risk of getting pregnant. Since the ejaculation has not happened inside, the risk of getting pregnant would be less, but cannot be ruled out as pre-ejaculatory fluids also contains active sperms which could amount to fertilization.
It would be advisable to take emergency contraceptive pill and it should be taken preferably within 24 hours and before 72 hours of unprotected intercourse.
Following taking of the pill, breakthrough bleeding in the form of periods should happen within 3 weeks from the day of intake of the pill. If this doesn't happen, you should seek medical attention immediately.
From next cycle onwards, it should be normal as it used to be earlier.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
