How To Get Relief When Food Goes In Wrong Pipe?

My friend was swallowing his drink and it went down the wrong pipe, and he was leaned over to the right when he coughed. He felt like something happened when he did this - he now has a major pain/throb in right 1/2 of his face/head. Feelin dizzy and it kinda hurts to lay down...but he wants to lay down. Could you please help us understand what happened?

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hello,
Thank you for posting your query here. I understand your complaints.
Your friend had liquid aspiration into trachea (wind pipe). It might cause cough and related syncope.
Do not worry as the body is perfectly capable of managing this kind of problems.
Advice him to lie down on the back during such episodes as this would increase blood flow to brain, dizzy feeling would subside.
Analgesics are not required.
All the best
