Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
If someone is trying to stop drinking, now they are sick and cannot keep found down, they are asking me to get them a couple ounces to drink to overcome and they will not drink anymore, I can pour out remainder, would this be a thing to do? thanks
Hello and welcome to Healthcare Magic. Thanks for your query.
This irresistable urge to drink is called craving and is a sign of alcohol dependence. Also, a person who abruptly stops drinking may be experiencing withdrawal symptoms due to which they may be demanding to drink.
If the person has been drinking heavily, then stopping abruptly may result in severe withdrawal symptoms like fits, confusion, disorientation, etc. So, in this situation which you have described, the best way out is to seek professional help for detoxification. During this detoxification phase, medication are given to prevent such withdrawal symptoms and also reduce craving. After the withdrawal phase is over, then further treatment for deaddiction can be planned.
Wish you all the best.
