How To Get Rid Of Throat Infection?

Hi, i am a healthy 25 year old man but i always get a throat infection if i drink alcohol for more than 2 days in a row. I m talking if i go on holiday and drink with all my mates everyday, by day 3,4,5 and 6 i have a ridiculously painful throat infection, high fever, swollen glands, impossible to swallow - white spots all over throat etc. This happens every time i drink consisitently but i ve never met anyone who has a similar problem. What could it be? It is an allergy to alcohol itself? P.S. alcohol is the only variable, i have never been able to drink for 3 days straight without a delayed throat infection coming on? Thanks

Hi,

Alchohol do not directly cause throat infection, but yes, hard drinkng does hurt delicate mucosa from throat to intestines. This insult to mucosa is a favourable environment for pathogens to grow. Further acidity and reflux and / or vomits caused by alcohol consumption aids to the insult.

General advice:
1. If its so intolerable first and foremost advice is to keep yourself away from alcohol if you can
2. If at all you can't have alcohol in a very dilute form and nor more than 30 to 60 oz or have bear 5% to join friends
3. Observe strict oral and food hygiene
4. Don't sleep immediately after alcohol consumption if you do and continue to consume.
5. Clear throat with properitory antiseptic gargles
6. Take soft bland diets only, don't take spicy foods irritating stomach
