Thanks for the question.

Your description of your daughter sounds like she has borderline personality disorder. Other possibilities are major depressive disorder, or bipolar disorder. Personality disorders can be difficult to treat, are long-term diagnoses, and respond best to psychotherapy. Sometimes medications such as mood stabilizers, antipsychotics, and antidepressants can be useful. This is a complex problem, and I encourage you to encourage your daughter to seek regular psychiatric care. Because she overdosed on pills once, she remains at high risk for suicide, and should follow regularly with a psychiatrist.

You ask about multiple identities. There is a psychiatric diagnosis called dissociative identity disorder, but it may not actually be a real diagnosis, and is the subject of close study. If it does exist, it is very rare. It is much more likely your daughter has borderline personality disorder, and would benefit from long-term psychotherapy and medication management by a psychiatrist.

I hope this is helpful.
