How To Handle Obsessive And Undisciplined Behavior Of Children?

Our 11 year old daughter is "odd" -- she lies regularly, refuses to bathe, won't wear certain clothing without the tags removed, is "void" when faced with consequences of completing simple tasks. Over-the-top dramatic and obsessive about t.v., often paraphrasing as if she is the character in the show. She laughs and cries uncontrollably over nothing. She pulls her own teeth out. We've talked with several people about this. Is it Asberger's? What/how do we test? She's getting worse.

Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. She is 11 years old and is showing symptoms like refusing to bath, behaving odd, choice of particular cloths, dramatic behaviour, obsessive about her habits, inappropriate laughter or crying etc. Such symptoms can occur due to some behavioural disorder of childhood. Conduct disorder can be a possibility but individuals show antisocial behaviour more often. Pervasive developmental disorder is other possibility especially Asperger's but she is not showing symptoms of autistic child. Her symptoms can occur normally in any child and can be ignored but if they start impairing school and social performance then treatment is needed. Please visit a good child psychiatrist for proper evaluation and treatment. Some times even a good counselling and target oriented approach result in improvement from such symptoms.

Hope this helps you. Thanks and Take care
