Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi I have been suffering from lack of libido for a month and in last two weeks cannot get an erection. I have been stressed but no more than usual but did take on two different occasions to help me sleep amitriptyline. Would that little effect my erection? Is there anything a doctor can do for me or indeed myself to help the situation?
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries
I can understand your concern. You have poor libido and erectile dysfunction. Amitryptiline is a tricyclic drug and the drug if taken regularly in high doses may cause sexual side effects like reduced libido but occasional use is not associated with poor erection of reduced libido. So in my opinion amitryptiline is not a cause for your problem. In most of individuals if diabetes and hypertension can be ruled out then most common cause for erectile dysfunction is psychological. So I will advise you to visit a psychiatrist for help. In most individuals PDE-5 inhibitor drugs as Sildenafil, Tadalafil etc are found to be very effective in erectile dysfunction. These drugs are used on SOS basis and are safe to use. These drugs will also help to improve libido. Please visit a psychiatrist for prescription of these drugs.
Thanks, Hope this helps you. Take care.
