How To Increase Bilirubin And MELD Score While Having Liver Cirrhosis?
my wife 66 yrs developed cirrhosis of liver 3 years back who was on oral hypoglycemic drugs ( sulphonylureas ) with increased liver enzymes for 10 years and on stopping Sulphonylurea drugs the LFT got normal with in a month 3 yrs back and since then she is alright physically. Periodic LFT showing Total Bilirubin 2.43 mg/dl (direct 0.95 & indirect 1.43) all enzymes are normal, INR 1.4 , MELD score 14. Hb.14 gms with normal serum Iron. At present she feels normal with controlled diabetes with insulin. Is there any thing you can offer to improve the Bilirubin and MELD score. Thank you
Hi dear, For your information good news is that bilirubin levels less then 3mg/dl has no clinical significance,And clinically patient is considered normal.Asper yourquery regarding MELDscore ,scoreof 10–19 has 6.0% mortality in case of sick and admitted patient. i don't think there is ne to worry at all right now, however i would suggest you to take liver rejenuvator like sylimarin twice daily for few months to help rejunuvate the liver and its functions.Strict adherence to low glycemic index carbohydraetes and low fat diet will resolve things earlier.
