How To Lose Weight And Keep Blood Pressure Under Control?

My mother is a b.p patient having 97kg weight. Most of the doctors have told us that due to weight you have a blood pressure problem. They have given her sofvasc and lipiget to lose her weight (cholestrol level). She s also having a problem of her backbone. Doctor s stopped her of using vitamin and calcium tablets like surbitol, zimag etc. So i wanna ask u that how she ll be cured because she s having all the problem sometimes her blood pressure shoots and some times it gets low, while she s not eating any thing because oil, ghee, rice r not allowed for her. But her weight is not getting less. So please tell me that how her weight will going to be less she cannot do exercise because she cannot walk more it will cause her pain in her toes and legs. So, doctor! Please tell me so that she will feel normal!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Fluctuating hypertension is commonly due to anxiety, tensions, stress, high alt intake, sedentary lifestyle, thyroid issues, kidney disorders. It is dangerous because it may lead to CAD, coronary artery disease.

Your mother should stay away from stress & anxiety, take adequate sleep & stay hydrated. She should take hypertension medicines as prescribed by the treating GP.

She should cut on carbohydrate, carbonated drinks, sugar, oil-junk food, trans-fat, refined flour, paneer/ cheese, packaged food & red meat.

She should take leafy greens/avocados, berries, fruits, veggies, beans, legumes, soups, nuts, whole grains, grapefruit, papaya, coconut, etc. Apple Cider Vinegar-10ml in half a cup of water once daily in empty stomach is quite effective to reduce weight.

She should do stretch exercises & walk regularly. You can take the help of a Physiotherapist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Nupur K, General & Family Physician
