How To Overcome Lack Of Motivation And Enthusiasm?
My wife, age 68, is having problems in motivation, "pulling the trigger" and just making general decisions as well as conducting tasks on a daily basis. We need to know what type of doctor that would be best to address her problems.Thank you,Charles C. Jamison, YYYY@YYYY
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries
I can understand your concern. She has lack of motivation and enthusiasm. Considering her age such symptoms can occur due to mild depression or possibly due to cognitive decline also. Please consult a psychiatrist for her symptoms.
For poor motivation in most of individuals drugs like stimulants can help. Amphetamines are the drugs commonly used but they are usually not advised to be used in elderly. In such case antidepressants of SSRI class like Escitalopram, Fluoxetine, Citalopram etc can be used. These medicines will help to improve her mood and her motivation will come back. Please consult a psychiatrist for proper evaluation and prescription of her medicines.
Thanks, Hope this helps you. Take care
