How To Overcome Severe Cold And Internal Pressure In The Ear?
I m trying to overcome a sever cold and I finally seem to be getting better. However, over the last 12 hours my right ear is experiencing a great deal of internal pressure unlike I ve previously experienced. Not sure if the area around the ear will drain/decompress on its own.
Ear pressure during a cold is a very common thing and is due to the blockage of the eustachian tubes which connect the middle ear space with the throat and help it drain. These tubes being blocked causes build up of fluids and negative pressures behind the eardrum and causes the patient to feel pressure and sometimes sling pain sensation and discomfort. It feels like your head is under water. It normally is self limiting and there is no treatment needed or effective, time is the best healer.
If you develop real pain or fever or you get drainage from the ear (these are not common complication in adults, they mostly happen in children) or the pressure feeling lasts for longer then 6 weeks then you will need to see a doctor.
I hope I have answered to your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Kind regards,
Antoneta Zotaj General & Family Physician
