Hi, I have taken Errin (progesterone only) pill for birth control, and switched to Sprintec combination birth control may 21st and started taking it that day. I have been skipping the placebo pills, and now i ve had breakthrough bleeding since June 17th. My next period is arriving dangerously close to my honeymoon. (July 26th-30th) I want to know how i can either A. STOP my breakthrough bleeding. Or B. Manipulate my period to be a week before the wedding. On a side note, I would like to start implanon soon. Would that make things worse or is it chemically similar?
Preponing the period is difficult. But you can postpone the bleeding by taking Norethisterone 3 to 4 days before the expected date of period and you can continue up to a maximum of 10 days. You will not bleed during these days. After stopping the drug, bleeding will start in 3 to 5 days.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
