Hello and welcome to HCM,
The culture of any sample -urine, stool, blood is done on culture media.
The infectious agent bacteria or fungus grows in the form of colonies.
Each bacteria and fungus has characterised morphology, characteristic color and other features.
These bacteria and fungus are identified based on their colony characteristics.
Further to study the individual characters of the organism, a part of the colony is smeared and stained with stains like Gram's stain and viewed under microscope.
Viruses cannot be cultured on culture media.

Thanks and take care
