My husband has enlarged ventricles in his brain due to excessive drinking, but he will not stop. He drinks first thing in the morning and shakes if he doesn t. He already had a grand mall seizure, and was in the hospital for detox. He does want to stop, but can t.

Abrupt stopping of alcohol in dependent individuals can cause withdrawl signs like shakes, palpitations, nausea and vomiting and sleeplessness and seziures in severe cases.
He will require long term indoor treatment program. This will include drugs as well as psychological treatment.
Drugs like librium or oxazepam are used to treat withdrawl symptoms.
Psychological treatments are done to increase motivation levels to quit smoking and prevent relapse.
