How To Reduce Cholesterol?

I am 61 and have a cholesteral level of 248. My blood test is 117 - 75 and exercise often. I quit smoking about a year ago and have gained some weight, but thought that would help my cholesteral. Apparently not, for it was 221 when I was smoking. Should I be overly concerned?

Dear Sir /Madam
Thanks for your query to us.
Definitely A rise in cholesterol is concerning but now a days we rely much more on detailed cholesterol analysis than only on total cholesterol. I would request you to detail your complete lipid profile along with your diabetes status. this will help us in calculating your risk and subsequent management of lipids.
You have done the best thing by quitting smoking for yourself. Weight gain and rise in cholesterol can be tackled by exercise, diet restriction and if required by medication for cholesterol.
Sincerely
Sukhvindder
