How To Reduce Gum Pain During Pregnancy?

I'm four months pregnant with twins and started getting a very severe pain on my lower back gum a few days ago. I went to the dentist and he said my wisdom tooth is emerging. That's the only comment he made and he didn't seem worried, he took a x ray and said he'd rather wait to remove it or do anything else until after I have my babies. He prescribed cepholexin and some sort of mouth wash. I'm still in pain though. How long should it take for the pain to atleast ease up?

Hello,
You have been prescribed an antibiotic to control infection. Make sure to take the antibiotic as prescribed and it may take a full 48 hours for you to have relief from the antibiotic. Contact your dentist to report your continued discomfort. The dentist may need to change the antibiotic if it is not effective. You should discuss which pain relief medication is recommended during your pregnancy with your doctor. Most of my pregnant patients are able to take acetaminophen for pain relief. This can be taken to relieve your immediate discomfort and reduce inflammation, if your doctor agrees.
If you will delay an extraction, the tissue around the tooth may need to be cleaned out under local anesthsia. You need to keep the area clean with rinsing and maintaining proper daily dental hygiene. Consider a consultaion with an oral surgeon, if you do not feel relief shortly.
Thank you for your inquiry. I hope you will start to feel better soon.
