Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a law enforcement officer and I stay very active while I m at work. I am always walking or running while on duty. But when I get home my lower part of my legs are swollen. My wife is a nurse and says that its edema. Also my hands and finger swell also. Sometimes to the point I have to take my wedding band off because it hurts. Any suggestions on maybe a diet, or over the counter med that would help?
Hello Swelling over dependent part ( legs and fingers of hand) may be due to following possibilities , these includes. 1 Congestive heart failure as you did,'t mention your age but it may be around 40 years ,so possibility may be C H F . Diagnosis can be confirmed E K G & ECHO. 2 Hypoproteinemia may be the next reason , so get in blood examination for protein level as well urine examination complete . 3 Chronic renal failure in its early stage so get in serum creainine examination . However there are so many other reasons as allergy ( urticaria ) , tropical eosinophilia . In my opinion this swelling is a cause of concern , so consult a primary care physician and get his opinion as early as possible. Good luck.
