How To Reduce Swelling In Calf And Shin?

Husband was in bad car accident last Sunday. Left calf was probably hit when car smashed drivers door. No bruising, he walked away. Only complained about sore back and sore neck. Now his calf is swollen and shin is sore. He will go get X-ray s tomorrow. But today, raising leg, should we put heat on it?

Hello and welcome to HCM,
swelling of calf region is most probably due to soft tissue injury.
Soft tissue injury can lead to pain and swelling.
Hot fomentation is helpful in relieving pain and swelling so it can be used conveniently.
Sore neck and sore back can be due to the trauma.
Thus, clinical assessment and relevant investigations pertaining to back and neck are required.
Consult your primary healthcare provider for further work up.

Thanks and take care
