How To Reduce Swelling In Operated Area?

Hello, my mother had a lumpectomy and sentinel node dissection procedure for breast cancer on Wednesday afternoon. She is experiencing much pain surrounding the operative site where extreme purple bruising has occurred. She has an ice pack over that painful bruised area and is taking her prescribed Percocet. Is there anything else I can do for her to help reduce the swelling and make her more comfortable? Thanks for any input :)

Welcome to Health care magic.

1.The symptoms and findings you have mentioned are seen in the post operative status of any procedure.
2.The edema and bruising are the post operative inflammatory changes seen in first two weeks which gradually reduces.
3.Proctocet which prescribed will help as pain killer and increase in temperature.
4.And a course of antibiotics will help in fast and better healing of the post operative site.
5.Nothing much you can do - Do not disturb, scratch, compress the site - it may delay healing process, good dressing of the wound.
6.Local hygiene, use soft cloths - avoid cloths which cause local irritation.

Hope it helps you. Wish you a good health.
