How To Reduce Thigh Pain While On Treatment For Sciatica?

I have pain inthigh area near the hip .have got xrays and scan was told i would have to take painkillers for life.the pain is very bad i was getting treatment for sciata did not help then my doc said it wear and tear please tell me somthing can be done to relieve this pain.joan gl thank you
