How To Remove A Tampon Which Is Stuck?

hi when i woke up this morning to take my tampon out it wasnt there.. im almost positive i put one in last night. i tried and cant find it anywhere but have the uncomfortable feeling n kinda feel its there. should i wait til im off my period to see a doctor? do you think it could come out within the next couple days? i just dont want to get the odor ive been reading about before i can see a doctor or go to a clinic :/ please help.
