How To Rule Out Shingles?

My Father was injured in the OR at a local hospital. They re saying it s Shingles but I think he was hurt from a clasp off an air mattress. Now we are home I won an appeal to stay but was to scared to stay. Now the place or weeping and the top of the skin on the big one is hanging. He is bedridden. So we are trying to keep him off that side as much as possible.

hello, shingles are reactivations of chickenpox virus in dermatomes. It usually reactivate s along the dermatomes. it is difficult to differentiate clinically as you are asking.Usually shingles are associated with lot of pain more than the lesions.you can come to definite diagnosis by immunological testing( pcr , base of the woundsmears) . better to do serology and immunological testing and confirm the diagnosis. because considering all the details you have given regarding , patient needs acyclovir .hope this helps . thank you
