How To Speed Heal An Open Site On An Elbow Scar And Get It To Stay Healed?
My son has a scar on his elbow from a series of surgeries and a scar on his chest from a minor procedure. The elbow had hardware put in and taken out through the same scar and most of it healed really red and raised but one small bit didn’t heal at all. Months later he got a staph infection in the elbow and that needed another surgery (through the same scar site.) He had 3 weeks of IV antibiotic and 2 weeks of oral antibiotic for the infection but no follow up to see if it was gone and no infectious disease consult while he was in hospital for the infection. The open bit was still open after this and took months to properly close. Now months later he has had blood pool under the chest scar and the elbow scar has opened again and bled. I am concerned that the scar may stay open again and he could get infected again. What can be done to speed the healing of the open site on the scar and get it to stay healed?
