Hi,

Many people with mental illnesses develop substance abuse as well in an effort to self-medicate themselves. Please convince your brother to consult a good psychiatrist as correct treatment can make a lot of difference to his condition. Tell him that he has nothing to lose and he can go back to his previous regimen if the new treatment doesn't work out.

Best wishes.
