General & Family Physician 's  Response
Dear Sir,
You are currently on a minimal dose of the mildest steroid I.e. deflazacort. Inhaled steroids are in the proper dose for an asthmatic. If your symptoms are controlled with the current dose and the frequency of your attacks decreases I.e. no attack for atleast 3-4 months, we can slowly taper the steroids and maybe even stop them totally. Steroids though have a lot of side effects, are very beneficial for in asthma as they reduce the inflammatory over response which is the main problem in asthma. Hence, it is necessary till you are symptom free for 3-4 months. Rest of the medications seem OK. Night cramps or restless leg syndrome is most commonly caused due to dehydration, hypocalcemia or anemia. If these conditions are corrected, your night time symptoms should subside too. Hope this helps.
Regards,
Dr Geeta
