How To Switch From Effexor To Trintellix?

I am on second day off getting off long time use of Effexor xr 150 onto trintellix. doctor suggested that if I had a problem I could take the Effexor every other day this week. I took 5 mg trintellix yesterday with mild side effects. today I went ahead and took 5 mg trintellix again not knowing how I would do, symptoms worse and I took another 5 trintellix. today I have not felt generally well, like withdrawing from Effexor. what is the best way to make this transition?

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hi,

It's not very difficult to switch to Trintellix from Effexor. Both are drugs that improve monoamine neurotransmission and this is the reason cross tapering will not be very difficult.

The dose of Effexor should be reduced gradually like by 25-50 mg every two weeks and the dose of Trintellix can be increased by 5 mg in the same period of time. Over 4 weeks complete switch can be done.

This will minimize the withdrawal symptoms.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
