How To Switch From Furosemide To Hydrochlorothiazide?
Greetings. I have been successfully taking Lasix/furosomide 40 mg 3 times daily for fluid retention in feet and lower legs. BUT developed pain in left jaw hinge. Then researched and found out furosemide has has some reports of jaw pain. My Dr. will switch me off to hydrochlorothiozide. How can I do this successfully and also how much should I take in place of the furosemide ? P.S. I also checked drug interactions i should be ok.
Hi Thanks for posting on HCM Furosemide may have as side effects painful joints and muscles and may cause jaw pain.It is a possible cause of your symptom even though the symptom may also be caused by over chewing or chewing hard food. This drug at the dose you took is not advisable to be taken for too long since it causes potassium depletion. Hydrochlorothiazide will be a good substitute as it is also a diuretic.Usual doses of this drug range from 25 to 100 mg orally once or twice daily.Your dose will be judged by your Doctor. Hope this will help Regards
