I recently moved to Tenn. from Florida where my primary doctor who has monitored me for 13 yrs. Due to a variety of situation I have been on opioids for 10 yrs, never doing mote then 1/2 at a time we started at Hydrocodone 10/325 1 daily in 2014 it was increased slowly to 3 10/325 hydro and if needed 2 10/352 oxycodone, I have never in all the yrs taken more than 1/2 at a time never used to get high. I’m now in Tenn. about out and also I have been prescribed bentos which I’m slowly weaning off. Should I go towards Suboxone ? Right now I feel a doctor can supply a months worth of codone or do the care that that u good have a heart attack by going cold turkey. By the way for all the years followed DEA protocols. I have 4 day supply left, and would first like to get of the bentos Thank you
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Look if the total amount of narcotic is 10 to 30 mg a day, you shouldn't be on suboxone which is much higher. Also, someone shouldn't be able to just decide what narcotic they want to be on--that should be decided with a specialist basically. Suboxone has a narcotic blocker. There isn't a way to switch onto it without some withdrawal. Either you have some withdrawal from not taking anything and then start suboxone--the correct way. OR you take suboxone before the other drug wears off and this will produce withdrawal--not the correct way.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
