Hallow Dear,
You are absolutely right in withholding the consumption of Mifepristone of your own. At 14 weeks gestational period, taking this medicine without Gynaecologist's advice and supervision may land you in serious complications like severe bleeding,
incomplete abortion, infection, etc.
For termination of
pregnancy of 14 weeks, WHO had recommended following regimes:
1. Mifepristone &
Misoprostol Regime: Tab. Mifepristone to be followed after 36-48 hours by Tab. Misoprostol vaginally or sublingually every 3 hours up to 5 doses.
2. Misoprostol Alone Regime: Misoprostol vaginally or sublingually every 3 hours up to 5 doses.
However, considering the possibility of above mentioned complications and need for medical assistance, the medicines should be administered in a well equipped medical facility only. The medicines need to be taken in appropriate dosage and route only. These medicines are prescription medicines.
These medicines cause developmental abnormality in the baby. Hence, in case of failure, pregnancy should not be continued but terminated by surgical method.
Alternatively, such pregnancy may be terminated by surgical evacuation of the
uterus. Since you are 14 weeks pregnant (more than 12 weeks), this procedure does carry some more risk. Therefore, in India, only highly equipped facilities are allowed to carry out termination of pregnancy of more than 12 weeks.
One more alternative is use of extra-amniotic instillation of Ethacredine lactate. However, its failure rate under 15 weeks of pregnancy are very high. In most of the countries, this procedure is abandoned now.
I feel, for you, Mifepristone + Misoprostol regime should suite better, however, only under expert Gynaecologist's supervision in a well equipped medical facility.
Once your pregnancy is terminated, please adopt a reliable birth control method like abstinence from the sex, condom, birth control pills or
intrauterine device.
I hope you got the message.
