How To Test If An Infant Is Succumbed To Neck Injury?
Hi our baby is 6 and half months. My partner was watching her crawling on the sofa. At some point she picks her as she s getting too close to the edge, when she picked her she kicked with her legs arched as she wanted to escape and slipped off my partner hands. she landed back on the sofa on her forehead the landing was somewhat very soft and slow but the thing is her body twisted the complete opposite direction of where she was facing leaving her for a fraction of a second facing the opposite way with her neck with the weight of her entire body on her neck completely twisted the opposite way. My partner was mega prompt and super reactive to pull her back without causing her to twist her neck any worse. When the baby was back up on my partners arms she was contracting her neck lifting her shoulders in tears. She cried for half minute then my partner consoled her with a breastfed and fall asleep as it was quite late in evening and typical time for her to go to sleep. We monitored her all night. We called a doctor we k ow who told us not to be too paranoid and look out for symptoms. The next morning she was crawling and smiling fine and had no atypical behaviour or lack of movements. She was moving her neck in every directions, no swelling and no crying. Just a little irritable as she suffers from reflux and tummy ache quite often. Shall we still take her for a scan? Any possibility that there may be a hidden neck injury that could affect her development?
Hello and welcome to Ask A Doctor services. I have read your query and here is my advise.
* As per the narration in details regarding the baby movements and rescue by hubby , I do not predict any of inadvertent neck or underlying vital structures injured through this.
She does not require any scan for this incidence, be rest assured and enjoy parenthood.
Thanks. Dr Bhagyesh ( MS consultant surgeon )
